Red's True BBQ in Leeds Review

I recently enjoyed a visit to Red's True BBQ in Leeds for the first time and I heartily recommend it.  The service is super fast and the food is delicious. Just don't visit if you are on a diet as you will fall off the wagon completely.  I didn't bother with a starter as I knew that the main course would be way more than enough for me.

I ordered the Juicy Lucifer burger which came with spicy fries and I also ordered a side order of giant onion rings.  The onion rings were nearly as big as the burger and sadly I only managed to eat one of them.  If you like spicy food then I definitely recommend the Juicy Lucifer.  It contains 2 5oz steak patties with a melted spicy 3 cheese centre, fried onions, pickles, dirty sauce, peppered bacon, mustard and spicy hot wing sauce.  Man my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Sorry for the quality of the photo below it's a bit embarrassing taking photos of your food and I really wanted to tuck in as it looked so good.

This is the first time I have been to a BBQ restaurant and won't be the last. It was a great experience and judging by the amount of people that were queuing to get seated when I left (I got there just before 12pm on a Saturday) it's very popular.  I will be returning soon to try the Donut Burger which sounds interesting, although I don't think my waistline will thank me for it.

Have you been to Red's True BBQ?

If you are looking for something to do in the half term holidays, then look no further than the Ice Cube Ice Rink at Millennium Square in Leeds.  It's open until 22 February 2015 and it's great fun.  Tickets cost £8 for an adult and £6 for a child for a 1 hour skate.  Skate sessions during the holidays are 10:00am, 11:15am, 12:30pm, 1:45pm, 3:00pm, 4:15pm, 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 8:00pm (no 8:00pm session on Sundays).

There is a separate nursery rink for children 8 years and younger and penguin skating aids are available in the nursery rink.

Tickets can be booked online here or in person from the Ice Cube Ticket Office. I highly recommend it as it's great fun, although hard work and can be painful if you fall.

There are also other attractions at the site including the North Pole Starflyer, The Snowslide, Glacier Run Experience Simulator and Snowball Adventure.

This is great fun for all the family and it's a reasonable price too (there are family tickets and concession tickets available).

Let me know if you have a chance to go.

AFYNA Organic Detoxifying Scrub Review

The great thing about beauty boxes is the opportunity to try out brands that you have never heard of before. One such brand that I have tried out recently is AFYNA which is a new organic skincare range founded and developed by Sara Young. Sara is an experienced spa therapist and she has created products that penetrate quickly into the skin, which use certified organic ingredients combined with powerful bio-extracts. AFYNA is hand blended in Cornwall.
AFYNA Organic Detoxifying Scrub Review
I chose to receive the AFYNA Organic Detoxifying Scrub as part of my You Beauty Discovery box and I am really glad that I got to try this product out. It’s a gentle organic detoxifying gel that uses apricot kernels to polish away dead skin cells. It contains 5 essential oils juniper berry, grapefruit, cypress, cedarwood and rosemary, which helps the body detoxify and reduces the signs of cellulite. The Organic Detoxifying Body Scrub costs £17 for 100ml.
AFYNA Organic Detoxifying Scrub
You apply this scrub to your body before a bath or shower and I found the texture of the scrub just right, not too harsh, but you could definitely feel it working on your skin. I also found the scent quite invigorating, so I prefer to use this on a morning as it’s a nice wake up call for my body and gets me set for the day. This is definitely a brand that I want to try more of and I quite fancy the Trio Sets here.

They do not test on animals and don't work with anyone that tests on animals which is great to see.

You can also get 10% discount if you follow them on twitter.

I bought this with my own money as part of the You Beauty Discovery Box.

In Your Eyes Film Review

I subscribe to Netflix, mainly to catch up on some TV series that I missed when they were on tv (Breaking Bad amongst others). One of the things that I struggle with on Netflix is finding good movies. I can’t count the amount of times that I have started watching a movie, but given up after half an hour because it just does not grab me. So when I find a great movie, I want to share it with everyone.
In Your Eyes Film Review
One such movie is In Your Eyes. Written by Joss Whedon of Buffy fame, this is the story of 2 people from completely different worlds (one a wealthy doctors wife in New Hampshire, the other an ex-con trying to get on with his life after prison in New Mexico). Since childhood they have shared a telepathic link which they have barely been aware of, but years later this link suddenly becomes much more intense and they can see, feel and hear what is happening to the other, although they cannot read each other’s minds and they are able to break the connection at will.

Both Dylan (Michael Stahl-David) and Rebecca (Zoe Kazan) are in vulnerable situations due to things that have happened in their past and after the initial shock of suddenly being hyper aware of the others’ lives, they build a bond and become a big part of the others’ lives without ever meeting. The chemistry between the main characters is amazing considering that they barely share a scene in the whole movie. I really rooted for these characters and enjoyed the movie so much that I have already watched it more than once.

I really love a movie where you go into it without any expectations and it turns out to be one of those movies that I know I will watch again and again. This is a movie that had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014 and then was immediately released online, so I just wanted to highlight it to you all as I find it difficult to find new and interesting movies on Netflix as there are so many available.

Let me know if you have watched this film and what you thought about it and also if you have any recommendations of films to watch then please do let me know.

Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall

I recently spent the day at The Serenity Spa at Seaham Hall. The spa and hotel are close to the A1 near Sunderland in the North-East of England. They had a special offer to spend the day in the spa with use of all the facilities including a 35 minute facial and a 50 minute body massage for £125 which I thought was a good deal.

We arrived at the spa at 8.45am and were greeted with a glass of cranberry juice or mineral water whilst we completed the medical forms. Then we were given a guided tour, after which we quickly changed into our swimming costumes and complimentary robe and slippers to go for a swim in the 20 meter indoor pool. I have to say the pool was lovely and so warm it was like swimming in a bath, it wasn’t crowded so we easily found a lounger around the pool to relax in, although there is so much to do we did not spend much time lounging around. Next we jumped into one of the two outdoor balcony hot tubs and even though it was really cold and windy outside we did not feel a thing once we were ensconced in the hot tub.

During the day we also made use of the Sanarium with crystal light therapy, the steam room with amethyst crystal, the sauna with quartz crystal, the hydrotherapy pool and I even braved the freezing plunge pools (twice with added ice!!! Crazy I know). I did not make use of the gym facilities as that’s not what I go to a spa for, but I am sure that they are nice.

For lunch we had a two course meal in the Pan Asian Ozone Restaurant. I chose the duck rolls to start followed by Szechuan chicken and I have to say they were both delicious. Others in my party enjoyed the Red Thai chicken and they chose some really lush desserts including Eton Mess and Chocolate Brownies. The two course meal was included in the price of the spa day.

The treatments were fab and very relaxing. The therapist comes and collects you from the waiting room and then goes through the treatment and asked about any issues that you were concerned with and then adapted the treatment to suit any concerns. They were very good and the treatment rooms were spacious and with a perfect ambiance.

The only disappointing part of the day was when someone with the same first name as me took one of my appointments even though their actual appointment was over 1 hour later than mine. It took the staff (at least 3 in total) over 30 minutes to work out what the problem was and then I had to take the appointment of the person that took mine. I just felt that it let the whole day down somewhat and I wasted about an hour of my spa time waiting around for someone to tell me what was going on. That being said the therapist was very apologetic about the whole thing and there is no point in letting something like that spoil what ultimately was a really lovely, relaxing day out. I would definitely go to Serenity Spa again and it would be nice to stay at Seaham hall overnight for a real treat.

It's definitely worth keeping an eye out on the website for similar deals throughout the year.
